welcome to kingfisher class

Kingfisher Photo Autumn Term 2017

In order to help your child with their new routine, here is an outline of the timetable information and homework expectations.

Monday – PE (PE kit required in school)

Tuesday –  Music

Wednesday – Southern Sport (PE kit required in school.)

Thursday –

Friday – Spelling test/ times tables test/homework

This will be set on a Friday and, except the project, will be due in the following Friday. A letter will be sent home with details of the week’s homework.

This half term pupils in Kingfishers will be set their weekly maths homework online using a secure educational site that we have subscribed to as a school. Children will be asked to log in to the MyMaths website - www.mymaths.co.uk and follow the steps below to access their allocated tasks.

1) Enter the login and password - Please speak to Miss Bailey.

2) Go to the left hand menu and find the “My Portal” section. Enter your child’s individual login details. These have been given out on a separate piece of paper with further instructions for the website.

3) Click on “My homework”

Your child should then be able to complete the task set. Should your child need to recall what has been covered in class, click on ‘view the lesson’.

Additionally, your child will be able to access a range of games and challenges to continue practising their skills.

Please remember to logout at the end of the session.

If, for any reason, children are unable to access this secure site at home, they will be able to use the school computers during the school day. Please let me know if you would like your child to do this.

Times Tables

Pupils will also be tested on their times tables every Friday. The children will have three or four minutes to complete a test. If they answer all the questions correctly, they will move up to a more difficult test. Please encourage your child to practise their times tables regularly.

Pupils will have nine words to learn to spell. Each week, we will look at either a spelling rule or a group of words from the National Curriculum Spelling List. The children will be given a list of nine words which demonstrate the spelling rule. They may learn these words but if they already know how to spell any of them, they are invited to investigate trickier words and create their own spelling list. The children will be tested on their list. It is useful for the children to put the words into sentences and practise writing the sentences ensuring that the spelling and punctuation are correct. Spellings will be given out on Friday and tested the following Friday.

If you have any questions about this half term’s arrangements, please come and speak to us.

Thank you for your support.

Mrs Perrett and Mrs Moss
